Asheville, NC

We decided to actually stay in Asheville this time so we could spend more time at the Biltmore than the first time we went a few years ago.  I'm so glad we did because it gave us time to go up to the mountains in the area.

We drove part of the Blue Ridge Highway which is an historic highway that extends from the Great Smoky Mountains to Shenandoah National Park.  It is a beautiful and very forested, windy road.  We stopped off to walk to Linville Falls.  It was very pretty and well worth the short walk to see it.  We also stopped in the tiny town of Little Switzerland, which was just as its name describes.

The next day was spent at The Biltmore and it did not disappoint.  The audio tour is the same but I don't think I would ever tire of seeing the house and everything inside of it.  It's so hard to get my mind wrapped around a house that is 175,000 square feet for a family of 3.  :D Some highlights of the house are it had a 2 lane bowling alley, an indoor swimming pool and over 10,000 books.  One other fact- the dining room is bigger than my entire house.  Haha! Absolutely a wonder.  We had a yummy lunch and then went to our wine tasting.  Score one for the Gilliam's.  :D
