Strafford, NH

After being a little disappointed with the lack of New England feel in Massachusetts, I was excited to get further north into New Hampshire to explore that area. NH did not disappoint with the amazing coast line, country side and mountains. Between NH and the southern part of Maine, we found the New England sights and feel that we were looking to enjoy. We started off taking the cog train up to the top of Mount Washington. The mountain is the highest peak on the east coast, but is unfortunately covered in fog and clouds at least 300 days each year. The day we visited was one of those days. We still had fun taking the train up and getting some photos at the top. We then visited Portsmouth and were impressed with the city. It has a lot more history that we realized and the food and houses were fantastic to tour. After getting that New England feel, we ventured further up the coast to Kennebunkport for a sailboat cruise around the area. We had no idea so many people had gigantic summer houses along the coast, including the Bush family. Our last day was spent driving to Hampton Beach and then up highway 1 enjoying the classic New England coast line. We are already anxious to visit the area in the future as it is very relaxing and beautiful. Now it is time to venture further north... Fun fact about Portsmouth is that it hosted a peace meeting between Russia and Japan that was put together by the US to end what they call World War 0. The treaty was signed in Portsmouth in 1905.
