Flathead Lake/Polson, MT

We rolled down the road just a couple of hours to get to Polson, MT.  We had heard a lot about the lake and it did not disappoint.

Flathead Lake is the biggest, freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. The surrounding area is gorgeous!  It is heavily wooded and sparsely populated so you can still the beauty of the land.  It is filled with various orchards and wineries.  You could spend an entire day visiting the little markets and tasting the wines located all around the lake.

While we were there it rained all but one day, of course.  We had to change plans because some of our plans were to go out on the lake for a day.  We ended up just driving around the area, exploring the little towns and what they had to offer. There is a cool, little church in the town of St. Ignatius that was built as part of that mission town.  It was built in the 1890's and its walls and ceilings have 58 paintings by one of the priests that served there.  Also, the little town of Bigfork is a must see if you visit the area.

We would like to come back to the area again, maybe more in the middle of the summer so we can get a chance to enjoy the lake.  :)
