Golden Spike National Monument, Salt Lake City, Utah

We stopped in the Salt Lake City area to break up our drive back to Boise and we took advantage of that opportunity to visit the Golden Spike NM. I have studied this period of our history and wanted to see the spot where the railroads met to join both sides of our nation. The drive out to the site is more than a little bleak and there is nothing out there but the visitor center and some of the tracks and platforms. However, after commenting on the signs every time we drove to SLC for a ski race, I was glad to finally cross this stop off the list.
